Dining services don't fit the students' needs

The Issue:
Food service hours are short and quality is low.
Lucinda's View:
Dining services should be open longer and food should be better prepared.
The last three years I have attended SDSU, the dining services, and more particularly the dining hours, have not impressed me.
The first week of the new semester has not changed my opinion.
I will admit that most of the weekday meals are decent. However, it really sucks when I have class from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and all of the dining places are closed for dinner. This forces me to go to the C-Store and buy a very over-priced pizza pocket that makes my dorm room smell.
Which brings me to another point: why must the food at the Jackrabbit C-Store and Hobo Stop be so high-priced? Are you not making enough out of the $6 we pay to get into Larson's and eat a salad, or go to Medary and get three small chicken strips and ten fries? I'll admit that I am OK with that price ... if the food's quality matches it. It doesn't.
Working for the paper, I'm usually here every weekend, all weekend. If I have it my way, I don't wake up until noon or 1 p.m. Put your jaw back up and think about it. After a night out socializing with your friends, what time do you wake up the next morning?
On Saturdays and Sundays, Larson Commons is open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Medary is open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For those of you lucky enough to wake up, get out of bed and carry yourself to whichever place, congratulations. For you others, know you're not alone.
I also want to comment on the lack of food quality ... as well as quantity ... on the weekends. I'm guessing not as many people work at the food places because half of them seem to be closed or offer frozen-for-too-long-and-now-undercooked hamburgers and cereal--not a good combination.
And for dinner? It is served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the weekdays, and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. Just one hour to eat on the weekends. Did you ever think that maybe so many people go home or go elsewhere because they can get better food at home or at a restaurant?
Now I want to pass the choice on to the students. Have you ever missed a meal because you didn't make the 'time' limit, or just plain didn't want to eat the same undercooked, over-priced food over and over again?
This is your turn ... your chance. Write letters to the editor, write letters to the dining services. It's OUR money ... stand up for it!
