Harris, Schroeder earn chance at NFL

The SDSU products went undrafted but Harris and Schroeder were signed by the Packers and Vikings respectively.

The SDSU Jackrabbits had two football players signed to NFL teams after the NFL Draft on April 26 was completed. JaRon Harris and Eric Schroeder were signed by the Packers and Vikings respectively and will get the opportunity to play professional football.

SDSU unleashes hit parade in sweep of Leathernecks

The Jacks ran their winning streak to seven by sweeping WIU and moved to fourth place.

The SDSU baseball team found their offensive rhythm and they found it in a big way, sweeping a four-game series from Western Illinois on April 24-26 in Macomb, Ill. The Jacks scored over 10 runs in every game of the series and moved into fourth place in the Summit League, which would earn them a spot in the Summit League championship.

Westerwinds blow past Jacks in sweep

League-leading Western Illinois held the SDSU softball team to three runs.

In a series that the SDSU softball team needed to win, Summit League-leading Western Illinois swept the Jacks in a three-game series in Brookings. The Jacks (9-36, 6-12) were held to one hit and two runs in game one in a 7-2 loss. WIU pitcher Kamren Ferguson had her 33 2/3 innings without an earned run streak snapped when Ashley Durazo singled to center for the Jacks only hit to score Brooke Postma from second.

Jackrabbit tennis lacking a true home court

Absence of on-campus courts leaves the tennis team without home meets.

The SDSU tennis teams have several away matches each year due to the lack of an indoor court facility on campus. The Hillcrest courts, a few blocks from campus, are sometimes used by the SDSU tennis team, but they have to be shared with the Brookings High School players, recreational players and college students all at the same time.

Oral Roberts runs away with title, SDSU finishes in fifth

The SDSU women's golf team took fifth at the Summit League Championships in Rochester, Mich. April 20-21. The rain-shortened event took place at the 5,899-yard, par-72 Katke-Cousins Golf Course. The Jackrabbits carded a 36-hole total of 671 (341-330) but finished well behind the winners from Oral Roberts University who shot a 619 (305-314).

Jacks down Leathernecks on home course

The men's golf team took a first place finish by six strokes with Peterson taking medalist honor.

SDSU men's golf coach Jared Baszler was straightforward when asked what he wanted to see from his team in the Beu/Mussatto Invitational. "One thing: beat Western Illinois on their home golf course," Baszler said. "Trent [Peterson] defending his individual crown would be icing on the cake.

SDSU rugby team gets lift from National Guard

SDSU was one of 400 schools to receive kits from National Guard that helped alleviate expenses.

It may not exactly be football or soccer, but the similarities between the two sports and rugby are striking. Rugby is played with 15 players on each side, compared to 11 in both football and soccer, using a ball that resembles a football, and there is no stoppage like in soccer.

Thielen, Schneller, Jasinski and Schiferl lead SDSU at the first home meet since late 1990.

The Jackrabbit men's track team had a solid performance by Ben Jasinski in Des Moines, Iowa on April 25 at the Drake Relays. Jasinski earned a fifth- and sixth-place finish in the triple jump and high jump respectively. His jump of 48 feet, 9.50 inches in the triple jump led the Jacks.

Ackman sets school discus record in Iowa

The senior broke an 11-year old record in the discus at the Drake Relays in Des Moines.

Sara Ackman led the SDSU women's track team at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 24. Ackman's second place finish in the discus broke the SDSU record when she threw for 171 feet 3 inches. Ackman's throw beat the 1998 record of 168-00 set by Nancy Overman.
