Academic evaluations do make an impact

By Editorial Board

Issue: SDSU students fill out 38,000 to 40,000 academic evaluations each semester to assess faculty. As the weather warms, the thoughts of summer escape permeate through a student's psyche. We may be chomping at the bit to get out of here, but there is one more order of business - academic evaluations.

Letter to the Editor: Parking changes

SDSU Parking and Traffic Committee: What color is the sky in your world? Since massive parking policy changes have been forced upon us for two consecutive years, I would assume that there are massive parking problems on campus that should be addressed. I don't see them.

Letter to the Editor: On Call thank you

I want to publicly thank the many SDSU students who work with the On Call television program. In particular, students who are active in the SDSU Pre-professional Club, students who are taking the Mass Communications On Call activity class and other nursing, pharmacy and nutrition students who assist by volunteering with our broadcasts should know how much their contributions are valued.

Letter to the Editor: Community thanked for success of History Day

Two hundred fifty students came to SDSU this weekend to compete in the SD National History Day state contest that was held at SDSU. National History Day is an educational program involving teachers and students in 6th -12th grade. Students do research and develop projects to showcase that research at regional competitions around the state.

'A place of transformation' and change

By Brady C. Mallory

As a writer, I try to think of a beginning, develop a story and find an organic ending. Lately, my mind has been wandering back to my days in high school when my life was homecoming games, cruising the one-ways, trips to Perkins after choir concerts, running the school newspaper and eating with friends at Steve's Pizza.

Cultural differences: Filipino versus American

By Eric Ariel Salas

In my over two years of stay in Brookings and in my travels across the U.S., I learned a few things Filipinos and Americans don't have in common. In the Philippines, the family is the center of the social structure. That includes the nuclear family - aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins.

Positive case not built for atheist-materialism

By Bernie Hendricks

Several weeks ago, Brady Phelps leveled his charge that many college students have a "disdain for science … here at SDSU, too." When questioned on the matter of objective evidence to support his case, he punted. In that column (the April 1st Collegian issue), Phelps defined his argument in the context of Darwinian evolution being the only acceptable starting point for scientific pursuits.

Respect the RSVP (and respondez)

By Jenna Mann

As wedding season comes upon us (and, might I add, with a vengeance), it is very important to remember your manners. Regardless of the wedding event - bridal shower, bachelor or bachelorette parties, and especially the blessed event itself - respecting the RSVP is essential in maintaining the sanity and graciousness of the host.
